- Taking emotional risks with others that can prepare you to take similar risks outside of the group
- Developing a feeling of cohesion, trust, and mutual support with fellow group members
- Making friends with other students on campus
SCHW Process Groups are held weekly and are open only to invited students. The group is led by a SCHW counsellor. Topics discussed change on a weekly basis and are student-driven according to need. Students have an opportunity to obtain psychoeducation and provide their peers with mutual support, information, and skills.
To see if a process group is right for you, please first meet with a counsellor for a walk-in session. Walk-in sessions are offered on weekdays from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Days & Times
There are two SCHW Process Groups. One group meets Mondays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., and the other group meets Tuesdays from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
LGBTQ2S+ Support Group
SCHW offers a drop-in support group to York’s LGBTQ2S+ student community. SCHW counsellors who identify as part of the LGBTQ2S+ community facilitate this group and create a safe and positive space where stories can be shared and support given. The group gives students the opportunity to be themselves in a world that often says that being themselves is not okay. Topics covered include coming out, gender and sexuality, finding safe spaces on campus/ during COVID-19, managing stress, connecting with broader community supports, and self-care. Group members are encouraged to lead the conversation and have agency over deciding what they would like discussed on any given week.
To join the next group or for more information please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
